Tummy Tuck - Post Surgical Scars

The most common question which is asked before the tummy tuck surgery is about the visibility and length of the post surgical scars. The scars of the surgery depends on the type of surgery performed.

There are two types of tummy tuck surgery known as partial and complete abdominoplasty. In complete abdominoplasty two incisions are made the first incision is along the bikini line and second is made around the belly button. In the case of partial abdominoplasty also known as mini tummy tuck a single incision is made between the navel and pubic hair line same as the first incision of complete abdominoplasty.

The length of the incision depends on the needs and expectations of the person who is undergoing surgery. The person who want remove extra fat and skin from lower abdomen can undergo mini tummy tuck. The scar of mini tummy tuck surgery is shorter in length and patient recovers fast after the operation. This type of scar can be easily hidden under a swim suit or an underwear. On the other hand complete abdominoplasty is performed in the person who need intervention in the area above and below the navel. A circular incision is made around the belly button in addition to the first incision as a result a post operative scar can be seen around the navel.

The larger will be the amount of skin and fat which will be removed longer will be the scar. The period of recovery will be longer and the post surgical scars will be more visible if the person undergoing surgery is a smoker.
